You May Not Like It…

I’m proud of myself. I was having a tough time with a situation that’s been plaguing me for some time now. Rather than feel sorry for myself as I tempted to do initially, I went to God right away.

I was reminded of Paul’s situation in scripture. In 2 Corinthians 12, Paul was tormented by a perpetual trial. Here’s what he said in verses seven through eight:

… I was given a thorn in my flesh, a messenger of Satan, to torment me. Three times I pleaded with the Lord to take it away from me.

I certainly can relate to Paul here. I know what it feels like to ask God over and over again to change a situation.

But instead of changing the situation for Paul, here’s how Jesus responded to him in verse nine:

But He said to me, “My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.

Mmph… not quite the response I’d like. The response I’d prefer is a change in my situation or circumstance. But although I may not like it, the truth is this response is all I need. This response is all that Paul needed. This response is all that you need. All we need is His Grace. The Grace of God can and will sustain us through any hardship, any trial and any struggle.

I’m proud that I remembered this truth sooner than later . In times past, I would have thrown myself a few pity parties before I would have come back around to this truth.

It’s my prayer that you’ll avoid the pity parties as well. As much as you may not like God’s response and would prefer that He changes your situation, always remember that God’s Grace is indeed sufficient for you and His Grace is all you need!
