“Whenever the cloud was taken up from above the tabernacle, after that the children of Israel would journey; and in the place where the cloud settled, there the children of Israel would pitch their tents.”

Numbers 9:17

If you read this scripture casually, you could miss it. There is a very important message being highlighted here: the importance of following God. To get a better understanding, you should read  Numbers 9:15-23. But essentially, this passage of scripture describes the Israelites’ obedience to the move of God. Whenever God’s  presence moved, they moved. Whenever God’s presence settled, they settled. Scriptures goes on to say that whether God’s presence settled for a short time or a long time, so did they.

This is a concept that I am yet trying to master. I have my own ideas and thoughts about how my life should be unfolding. I have my own thoughts and ideas about the timing of how things are (or are not) developing in my life.

But I’m grateful for the Israelites’ example. No matter my own thoughts, I must stay aligned with the move of God. Whether God leads me to a place to stay for a while or just for a short time, I must stay aligned.

Proverbs 3:5-6 says, “Trust in the Lord with all your heart, And lean not on your own understanding; In all your ways acknowledge Him, And He shall direct your paths.”

May we be encouraged to put this passage of scripture to practice at all times.
